  • Description: Sexual assault victimization has been a widespread issue for the past 50 years, especially on college campuses. In order to prevent victimization, college campuses provide sexual assault prevention programs for their students. The purpose of this thesis is to review current literature on the efficacy of sexual assault prevention programs that are provided for college students. With a focus on primary prevention programs, this review gives recommendations for post-secondary institutions on what methods should be used for reducing rates of sexual assault victimization and perpetration. The primary prevention programs discussed include: risk-reduction programs, acquaintance rape prevention programs, and primary prevention programs. Current findings show that a mixed-sex audience is ineffective, and sexual assault prevention programs should have a single-sex audience, have repetitive interventions, and focus on decreasing hypergendered attitudes.
