  • Description: LOOKING at the most civilized portions of the human family, we find scarcely one in a hundred who has received a discipline at all worthy of his nature, or has had any definite aim respecting his character. The fountains of knowledge have been sealed up--all access thereto denied to the great mass of citizens; the millions of every nation have been looked upon only as so much physical strength to do the work and fight the battles of the few; a heavy burden of toil has been laid upon them, lightened only by the sensual pleasures of here and there a holiday.
